Why most brands are flying blind on Meta
Meta's algorithm rewards one thing above all else: creative that people actually want to watch. But most brands are still guessing — launching ads with no system, no signal, and no way to know why something worked.
The brands that win aren't spending more. They're reading their creative data better.
Transcript
In this video we walk through the three creative signal types that predict performance before you spend a dollar in testing — hook rate, hold rate, and conversion signal. Each maps to a different stage of the funnel.
Key Takeaways
Hook rate tells you if your first three seconds stop the scroll. Hold rate tells you if your message holds attention. Conversion signal tells you if your offer closes. Fix them in that order.

The three-signal framework
Every high-performing Meta ad sends three signals that you can measure, iterate on, and scale. Once you have the framework, your creative team stops guessing and starts building a repeatable system.
Hook rate is the percentage of people who watch past three seconds. If this is low, nothing else matters — the scroll won. Fix the hook before touching anything else.
Hold rate (sometimes called video through-rate) tells you whether your story holds attention once you've earned it. A drop-off here usually means your middle-act is losing the thread.
Conversion signal is the link between creative and purchase intent. This is where your angle, your offer, and your CTA all come together. A strong hook and hold rate with a weak conversion signal means your offer isn't landing — not your creative.
How to use this in your account
Pull your top 20 ads from the last 90 days. Sort by hook rate first, then hold rate. You'll start to see a pattern: certain angles or formats consistently outperform. That's your creative signal. Your job is to build more of what that data is telling you — not rely on gut feel.
